Born with a 'Birthmark'. When she was born on June 26, 1987 with a 'birthmark' on her face, everyone including the doctor thought it would disappear. -

Blood Transfusions at 9 Months Old. Three months later, she began bleeding from her nose and gums, and no one knew why. When she was about 9 months, she started getting blood transfusions to replace the blood she was losing. At 2 years old, she started undergoing surgeries that were supposed to help stop the bleeding, but they were unsuccessful. -

The 'Birthmark' Expands. At 8, Jennifer's 'birthmark' began to expand. The mass between her eyes and upper lip also grew, and the family still didn't have answers. She underwent a series of laser surgeries and continued to lose blood. -

Unable to Get Dental Work. Because of the bleeding from her gums, she constantly has to swish water. Her gums cannot hold her teeth and it isn't safe for her to get any dental work done, because one mistake and she can bleed to death. -

A Long Awaited Answer. In 2000, Jennifer's grandmother was watching TV when she learned about Dr. Milton Waner, who was performing a surgery on a woman that reminder her of Jennifer. It wasn't until they contacted and met with him that they learned that Jennifer had AVM as well as some benign tumors. -

A Loving Family. Despite her condition, Jennifer Hiles has found a loving partner in Dustin VanOverschelde. Even though she could have died from the loss of blood in pregnancy, she took the risk, underwent cesarians, and gave birth to two beautiful daughters. -

Dr. Khosh, Plastic Surgeon. 'These guys are changing my life!!!' she wrote about the team on her GoFundMe page. -

Tissue Expanders. In early 2016, Jennifer had some tissue expanders, or medical balloons, placed on her face. Another doctor, Dr. Munson, filled them with saline. The point of these expanders is to stretch and grow new skin for the next surgery. -

'I'm always going to think she's beautiful,' says her husband. 'I can see past her outside figure because she is so beautiful on the inside. It doesn't really matter about what's on the outside to me,' her husband says. -

Jennifer is Worried About Her Looks Affecting Her Daughters. 'I'm more worried about them making fun of my daughter than they are of me. I don't want her to be affected by it, because kids can be mean.' -

Staying Positive. Jennifer does her best to express and even fake positivity. Even though it's very difficult, she still looks forward to one day visiting her daughters at school without anyone saying anything negative.
